the Who, What, When, Where, Why & How of Clementine Press
Who:
a girl, two presses, & an orange tabby overseer.
What:
cards, coasters, prints, & custom social and business
stationery.
When:
the presses have been rolling since 2000, but Clementine Press
became a true obsession in 2006.
Where:
the Clementine Press studio occupies a tiny speck of
real estate in LA’s Miracle Mile, but I’ll ship anywhere in the
world & accept commissions from around the globe.
Such is the glory of the Internet.
My work is also available at:
ReForm School in Los Angeles.
Why:
I love everything about letterpress:
the attention to detail & the accidents of the process;
the subtle hiss of the rollers hitting the ink & the metallic clunk of the rotating ink disc; the physical act of spacing & the geometry of locking up the form.
I love the landscape of multiple images and texts as the pieces lay out to dry.
I love hearing that one of my designs hit the perfect note at the perfect time.
I love bringing my thoughts and daydreams to life with wood & metal & ink & paper.
& I love working with people to bring their thoughts and daydreams to life, too.
How:
Clementine Press is a one-woman operation. I design and print everything in-house on a Chandler & Price Pilot press and a Showcard Signcard proof press. The designs incorporate everything in my studio arsenal: vintage metal type, vintage wood type, vintage cuts, linoleum blocks, & magnesium plates from original designs.
